1) Psalm 115:16 NKJV
16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's; But the earth He has given to the children of men.
a. Is there only one heaven?
b. Man has authority on the earth. Who has authority in the heavens?
2) Matthew 3:16 NKJV
16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
a. What does baptism symbolize, and what was Jesus showing us by this practice?
b. What is meant by the heavens opened, and what does that mean for us?
3) 2Corinthians 12:1 - 4 NKJV
1 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago-whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows-such a one was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know such a man-whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows- 4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
a. According to the Apostle Paul, how many heavens are there?
4) Ephesians 2:1 - 2
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
a. Who is the prince of the power of the air, and why is this important?
b. Why is it "sons of disobedience" and not disobedient sons?
c. Many scholars define air as the realm of the fallen angels. Is this the 2nd heaven?
5) Ephesians 6:10 - 19
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints- 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel
a. If we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, who do we stand against?
b. Does the term "heavenly places" correspond with "air" in Ephesians 1:2 and relate to the 2nd heaven?
c. We are told to stand in the armor of God. What do we do while standing?
6) Daniel 10:10 - 14
10Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11 And he said to me, "O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you." While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling.
12 Then he said to me, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come."
a. When did God answer Daniel's prayer?
b. What or who delayed the manifestation of Daniel's prayer?
7) Mark 16:17 - 18
17And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
a. Who is supposed to cast out demons?
b. Are we given the authority to cast out the rulers of darkness and wickedness in heavenly places? How do we then wrestle with them?
8) Hebrews 4:14 - 16
14Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
a. How can we, flawed human beings, come before God's throne for help?
