Sons of God have the Father's Inheritance

Part 2 of the Sons Of God Series

Now are We the Sons of God Part II

1) John 1:10 - 13 NKJV

10 He (Jesus) was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become the sons of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

a. Who has the right to be a son of God?

b. Does everyone that receives Jesus exercise their right to become a son of God?

2) Galatians 4:1 - 7 KJV

1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differs nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because you are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore you are no longer a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

a. How are sons of God different than children of God?

b. What does it mean to call God "Abba" and to be His heir?

3) 1John 3:2

2 Beloved, now we are the sons of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

a. Are we now God's sons?

b. Is it possible to receive more revelation about Jesus than we already have?

c. If we receive greater revelation regarding Jesus while we live in this present world, can we also experience a greater revelation of our being sons of God?

4) Luke 15:11 - 19

11 Then He said: "A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.' So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.

17 "But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."'

a. How did the younger son treat his father?

b. What was the internal dialog that the younger son had regarding his relationship with the father?

c. Sons of God serve, but are they servants of God?

5) Luke 15:20 - 24

20 "And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

22 "But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.

a. What was the father's reaction to his son's return?

b. Did the father acknowledge his son's view of himself?

c. What was the father's view of his son?

6) Luke 15:25 - 32

25 "Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.'

28 "But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, 'Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.'

31 "And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. 32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.'"

a. What was the older son's internal dialog that kept him out of the party?

b. Does not transgressing God's commands bring us closer to Him?

c. Does the older brother love his younger brother? Does he even see him as a brother?

d. What separates children of God from others?

e. Did the older brother have a right to his father's inheritance? Did he receive it?

f. Can bitterness and self-righteousness keep us from the party?
